12 Things You Should Know About Me

October 9, 2018

Trying to get to know someone through social media can be tough, so before you get started exploring + following along on my page, I figured I should probably let you in on a few of the little details that make me, me. The good, the bad, and all the in between that has made me who I am, and inspired me to share the content that I do on my page.

Feel free to comment below if there's anything else you want to know, if you can relate, offer advice, or have anything else you want to share!

Thanks for supporting me, friends!

1. I'm only 5'2. For some reason, people are always surprised by how short I am in real life, despite the amount of photos I post looking like a child next to other adults. Maybe the way I take my photos is giving me a little boost, but I'm basically a legal midget.

2. I'm originally from a suburb outside of Chicago. I was born + raised in a suburb west of Chicago called Batavia, IL. I attended my first two years of college in downtown Chicago before moving down to Nashville in 2016 for an internship. As much as I love Nashville, Chicago will always hold a special place in my heart.

3. I met my boyfriend on the internet. It sounds creepier than it is, but I emailed him asking to interview one of his clients and after one Google search of my name, he knew I was the one. Just kidding, but he was pretty persistent after our first business phone call, and even though we lived on opposite sides of the country at the time we met, a few months later we both moved to Nashville, became best friends, and eventually, we were absolutely crazy about each other. The way the universe brought us together was one in a million, but I couldn't be happier that it did.

4. I'm a Capricorn. Every time I've tried to deny the accuracy of astrology signs, I do something only a Capricorn would. According to horoscope.com, a Capricorn is: "Smart, hardworking, and fully in control of their destiny, a Capricorn will always get what they set their mind to, in both personal and professional life—no excuses. Capricorns may get a reputation as stubborn, but they simply know what they want, and also know how they wish other people would behave." Truuu.

5. I love dogs, I really do, but as much as I hate to admit it, I'm a cat person. I never thought I would be this way. My whole life I was indifferent about cats and adored dogs, until my aunt and uncle convinced me to adopt one of their rescue kittens. I've had my cat {Dylan} for about a year now, and she's 100% a diva, but I adore her, and all other cats now. They might all be jerks, but they're cute jerks.

6. I've dealt with chronic illness most of my life. {+ continue to to this day} I'm working on a more in-depth post about my health journey, but long story short, I've struggled with chronic abdominal migraines since I was very young, and more recently have struggled with immune and autoimmune issues. In high school, I was on every pain killer in the book, had botox done, tried every doctor I could find and still struggled with pain. This is most of what inspired me to educate myself, and try to educate others on natural ways to deal with pain and help heal your body as opposed to treating symptoms. I hope that through this blog my experiences can help others dealing with similar issues.

7. I was on national radio. During my junior year of college, I had the opportunity to intern with Sirius XM The Highway here in Nashville, and got to assist Storme Warren with his morning show, as well as voice and produce a few of my own segments for the weekends. I'm not nearly as passionate as I used to be about working in radio, but of all my internships that one was definitely one of my favorites, and what a cool experience to get to be heard all over the country.

8. I'm the oldest of 4 kids. Some people hate being the oldest, but I've always loved it. My siblings and I are incredibly close, and growing up with so many babies is probably why I have naturally have such a nurturing nature now. They were my worst enemies when we were little, but I'm so grateful for my built-in best friends.

9. I transferred colleges my senior year.  I started my college career at Columbia College Chicago studying Broadcast Journalism and Radio, and as weird of a place as it was, I adored it. One of Columbia's biggest selling points is that they get you into your field right off the bat, no waiting until you're done with your gen-ed's. Thanks to this policy, I started interning my first semester, and by the end of my sophomore year had landed an internship with CMT down in Nashville. One internship in Nashville led to another, and before I knew it I had spent a whole year working in television and radio in Nashville and had absolutely fallen in love with it. So, I decided to finish my last year at Lipscomb University. After spending a whole year taking online classes and working in my field, sitting back in a classroom was not fun. But I made it, and in the end I'm grateful I got to experience two COMPLETELY different colleges and make a ton of friends along the way.

10.  I went to an all-girls high school. Yep, you read that right. I went to public school my whole life until high school, so the first year was a little brutal, but after that, it was actually kind of nice. No putting on makeup, picking out outfits, worrying about boys during the day. It was basically like a little sorority. Plus, I tricked the system a little bit by joining the cheerleading team that had practice every day after school over at the boys school. #score

11. I'm Irish and Italian. I appreciate the green eyes, the ghost-white skin not so much, but you win some you lose some.

12. I have one tattoo. I got it super randomly, sober, one night a little over a year ago. It's on my forearm, and it essentially means "live on God's time", or "Live The Fourth" if you've ever been on Kairos.
