My Non-Toxic Lash Routine

July 2, 2019

Over the last year or so, I’ve been trying to swap out the products I use in my house and on my body for cleaner, more sustainable options, and makeup has honestly been one of the hardest categories for me to transition. Finding out that so many of my favorite brands that I’ve used for years are made with toxic chemicals, or that their companies values do not align with mine as far as ethics go, has been challenging, and so has finding products to replace my long-time loves.

I get so many questions about the clean makeup I use, especially on my lashes: what products I use, if I still get extensions, etc., so I wanted to put together this post to answer some of your questions and let y’all in on a few of my holy-grail products I’ve found after many months of trial and error.

If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know I used to have lash extensions. After a few months of having them, they honestly just became more trouble than they were worth for me personally. Each time I got them filled typically took about an hour to an hour and a half, and they looked great for about 3 days before they started falling out and looking spotty. I felt like I had to get them filled every week and a half, and your girl did not have time for that. For me, it just wasn’t worth the cost and the maintenance to have them, so I started looking for other methods or products that could help me get similar results. I didn’t want to go back to the chemical-laden mascaras and serums I was using before, so I started testing out some natural options, and this routine has completely changed my lashes for the better!

Since I started this routine, I’ve noticed longer, stronger, thicker lashes, and can rest much easier knowing I’m using ingredients that are doing good for my body.

  1. Curl - any curler will do, I’m pretty sure I’ve had the same one since middle school. I just hold mine for about 5 seconds each!

2. LASHFOOD Collagen Lash Primer - this stuff is a god send. It’s “A three-in-one lash primer that stretches and sculpts the look of lashes, boosts volume, and nourishes, maximizing the effect of any mascara.” Plus, it’s a clean brand that is toxin-free and environmentally conscious. One coat of this does the trick for me!

3. Juice Beauty PHYTO-PIGMENTS Ultra-Natural Mascara + Rosemary Essential Oil - This mascara is my absolute favorite. It’s vegan, cruelty-free, and has botanical juice as the base instead of water that nourishes, volumizes, and helps keep your lashes strong and healthy.

Rosemary essential oil is stimulating, and helps boost lash growth. I added about 5 drops to my mascara tube. Once you shake it up you’re good to go!

Pro Tip: It works on your hair too if you add a few drops to your scalp when you shampoo!

I hope you love this routine as much as I do!
